2010-05 Ring Report Ring #170 The Bev Bergeron Ring

President Craig Fennessey called the meeting to order on April 21st and introduced the Rings officers to the 23 members in attendance.
Craig announced that the upcoming month of May would be a very busy one for our Ring. On May 8th the Ring's Annual Banquet will be held at Christ the King Church on Apopka Vineland Road and reservations were recommended because of limited seating. On May 11, Chris Capehart will present a lecture and workshop at our IHOP location.  In addition, the Ring's monthly meeting will also be held at its scheduled time.  Bob Sheets is booked for a lecture in June.  Craig Schwarz, a member in our Ring, is President of SAM #99 in Orlando and will be meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month.  Magic abounds in and around Orlando.  Fred Moore and Company will be appearing this month at Wonderworks on International Drive.  Keith Locke is appearing at Hannibal's in Winter Park and is bringing his Magic Bar to Sleuths' in the Mercado area on I-Drive. 

Volunteers from our Ring will be performing on a new stage configuration at Give Kids The World.  The performances are on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM.  Bev Bergeron entertains magically and vocally at the Red Fox Lounge on Thursday evenings. He will also be at the Parlor Room of the Magic Castle in September.  Wallace Murphy will demonstrate his skills at The Hard Rock Cafe on Friday night.

Dan Stapleton suggested that the Ring should pursue writing a  “ Parade” for the Linking Ring and his
idea was enthusiastically endorsed by the membership.  Gary Adams informed the Ring that Tom Mullica was undergoing medical treatment and had acknowledged Gary's well wishes.  Tom has entertained here, in the past, and his many friends wish him a speedy recovery.
Bev Bergeron was next up with a Magic Teach-In.  Utilizing a business card and patter he demonstrated a linking ring illusion.  Phil Schwartz followed Bev with Magic History Moment #21.  His topic this month was “The Marvelous Chinese Conjuror”, Chung Ling Soo: Soo was born William Ellsworth Robinson in New York of western parentage but took the personna of an Oriental Man of Mystery in  vaudeville and the Hermann and Kellar shows. In France, as Hop Sing Loo, he did not meet success but as Chung Ling Soo he hit the mark but unfortunately he died prematurely when fatally wounded in 1918, performing the Bullet Catch.  Phil showed posters from his collection which included; the Soo Sepia, The Gift From The Gods, The Artist's Palette and The Peacock.  Phil announced, as he closed, that his Thayer Website had just celebrated it 1st Anniversary.
Chris Dunn was the Emcee for the member performances. Teenager Sebastian Midtvaage  showed his skill with a Coin Magic Demonstration.  Charlie Pfrogner did a Fish Bowl and Cat Illusion with an apparatus he acquired at our recent Flea Market.  Will Wortman demonstrated one of his many sleight of “Pen and Hand” routines to the delight of his audience.  Dan Stapleton closed the evening with two very entertaining card tricks, Mirror Image and Out Of This World.
A fine time was had by all.
