There is good news, sad news and fun news to report from the June meeting. Twenty-eight magic lovers were present as the business meeting called to order by president Craig Fennessey. We welcomed new member Mike Martin. The sad news was that Lee Barnard, a long time fixture in the Orlando magician's scene died one month after his tribute get-together. Many magicians attended his funeral and Bev Bergeron did the Broken Wand ceremony. Some good news was that former member and now California resident, Jon Armstrong, won the Close-up magician of the year at The Magic Castle. Member Jorge Iglasias won the competition at the Magic On the Beach Convention in Miami.
Some fun news is that Tom and Donna Salvador and moving their magic shop inside Pizzazz Theatrical, a magic, costume and makeup store on the East side of Orlando.
Mark Fitzgerald showed a new fancy magic wand he bought and then advised us on a new product available at office supply stores that turns a home computer and color printer into a poster making machine.
Finally Joe Vecciarelli brought in some printed materials from Las Vegas and informed us about the new Criss Angel show opening in a Cirque Show at the Luxor.
With business meeting over, we began our monthly show. This month Tom Salvador was the emcee. First up was KP and Professor Knox (Cory). The professor did a fine job of juggling glowing balls and when the lights were turned low, he brought down the house. KP did "Dots Impossible", where blue dots and red dots on cards change places. Finally he did a unique exchange of a red ribbon and a blue ribbon while held around a volunteers closed arm. Charlie Pfrogner revived an old classic, The Grandma's Necklace in its original form with cord and large beads.
Chris Dunn passed out a paper to all present with nine animal characters on it and invited the audience to start eliminating characters by making specific moves of their choice. We all ended up on the American Eagle since it is going to soon be the 4th of July. Max Maven has done this type of effect on television many times and it was nice to see Chris theme it for the holiday. Kostya Kimlat, resident card wiz, did a cute card story about four kings on a desert island who wanted to get home. No, Sam the Bellhop did not rescue them. James Songster and Joe Vecciarelli presented a portion of their library show with a pirate theme. They had a square circle and a treasure map and lots of humor. They and a spectator finally made it to the correct island and found the treasure.
Ravelli had a red, green and blue colored rope routine. They traveled and they ended up mysteriously tied. Dan Stapleton capped off the show with The Patriotic Ropes.
If you get to Orlando, please join us for a Ring meeting. Good things are always happening in Ring 170.
